Construction Industry Skills Council (CISC) organized a consultation workshop on the construction sector skills strategies on 13 December 2017. Sudokkho has been providing financial and technical support to CISC in this regard. The objective of the workshop was to disseminate the strategies among the construction sector stakeholders.
Engr. ShafiqulAlamBhuiyan, the Chairperson of CISC facilitated the consultation workshop. Sayed Mohammad ShamsulKaunain, Engr. M. AnisuzzamanBhuiyan Rana, Mr. AsaduzzamanShahid Khan participated in the workshop from CISC along with others. Erling Petersen, Mr. Belayet Hossain, Mr. Suresh Mahto, Mrs. Narmin Sayeed and Mr. Alastair Machin represented Sudokkho in the meeting.
The Chairperson of CISC, Engr. ShafiqulAlamBhuiyan presented a briefing on Skills development in the construction sector, role & functions of CISC, skills planning and employer survey. The Chief Executive Officer of CISC, Sk Abdul Mannan made his presentation on the process, which is followed to develop the proposed skills strategy in Construction sector.
Mr. Alastair Machin, International Consultant presented the draft 5-year construction sector skills strategies plan. He proposed nine strategic objectives and seventeen interventions. Mr. Mohiuzzaman, Course specialist of SEIP proposed to coordinate the development of competency standards and other similar activities and strengthen the collaboration between SEIP and Sudokkho. Mr. Suresh Mahto, Skills & Employment Director of SUDOKKHO insisted that competency standard should be approved by CISC and subsequently by BTEB. Mrs. Narmin Sayeed, the Gender & Social inclusion Advisor of Sudokkho mainly focused on women empowerment in the construction sector.
Erling Petersen, Team Leader of SUDOKKHO added that Skills development in the construction sector forms part of a bigger picture of skills development across the whole economy. He insisted that government policy and funding strategies need to be informed by the private sector.
The strategic objectives feedback session will be organized in January 2018 to get specific inputs and finalize the strategies.
